Wilson Holloway died from complications of Hodgkin's lymphoma
Wilson Holloway, the former University of Tulsa football player, died Wednesday after battling against cancer. Wilson Holloway ,the 22-year-old offensive tackle was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March 2008. Wilson Holloway was recognized for the courage and optimism he showed while battling cancer and was documented by Pat Forde two years.
Wilson Holloway played in six games in 2008 after undergoing cancer treatments but the cancer reappeared in September 2008 and Wilson Holloway underwent a second round of chemotherapy treatments. The Football Writers Association of America voted him the 2008 FedEx Orange Bowl Courage Award winner.
Tulsa Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham says Wilson Holloway smile was “contagious” and that Holloway “fought the disease with a tireless and enthusiastic spirit.” High school teammate Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers broke down in the locker room after hearing the news, following the Clippers’ victory over the Timberwolves.
Griffin and Wilson Holloway were high school teammates at Oklahoma Christian School and won state championships in 2006 and 2007. They remained close after Griffin went to the NBA and Wilson Holloway was an offensive lineman at the University of Tulsa.
A memorial candlelight service for Wilson Holloway will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Oklahoma Christian School.Holloway died Wednesday afternoon after nearly a three-year battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was 22.Holloway was a football standout at OCS and at Tulsa. People are being asked to bring as many candles, pictures and flowers as possible to honor Holloway’s memory.
